Memories, stories and why travel

Today, we leave a pertinent message to retain, especially by travel marketeers – which can be found in Jonathan Franzen’s The End of the End of the Earth: “If, as we hear, the goal of exotic travel is to ‘create memories’, if, as I defend, our memories are fundamentally made up of good stories, and if what makes a good story is some unexpected element, then the purpose of traveling is to be surprised” (free translation).
